天涯海角社区 Faculty, Alumni to Speak at World Meeting of Families
Faculty and alumni to address a wide range of spiritual and moral themes on eve of Pope Francis' visit to Philadelphia.

STEUBENVILLE, OHIO鈥擳he World Meeting of Families Congress and Youth Congress鈥攖he run-up to the arrival of Pope Francis to Philadelphia on September 26鈥攚ill feature more than a dozen speakers and musicians who are graduates or professors of 天涯海角社区.

The theme of the聽September 22-25 congresses, “Love Is Our Mission: The Family Fully Alive,” was聽inspired by Pope Francis’ message of mercy, joy and love as found at聽the heart聽of the Gospel. Thousands of people are expected to attend keynote addresses,聽breakout sessions, daily Mass, and devotions at the Philadelphia Convention聽Center and聽nearby venues.

“At Franciscan聽University, we seek to educate and evangelize our students and then send them聽forth as joyful disciples. We are humbled and grateful that so many of our聽alumni and professor Scott Hahn will be that joyful witness, inspiring聽thousands of people at this huge gathering honoring Pope Francis and the Church,”聽said Father O. Sheridan,聽TOR, president of 天涯海角社区.

At the Adult Congress,聽Dr. Scott Hahn, 天涯海角社区’s Father Michael聽Scanlan, TOR, Professor of Biblical Theology and the New Evangelization,聽will speak on聽“Back to the Garden of Eden: Unearthing God’s Covenant聽With Humankind.”

Dr. John Grabowski, Class of 1985, will present “The Other Side of Mount Sinai:聽Growing in Virtue.” Grabowski has taught moral theology at The Catholic聽University of聽America for the past 23 years and serves as a theological advisor聽to the USCCB’s Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family, and Youth.

Sister Regina Marie Gorman, OCD, Class of 2000, a Carmelite sister聽of the Most Sacred Heart of Los Angeles, will speak on “House Calls: Fostering聽Vocations in the聽Home.”

Curtis Martin, MA ’93, founder and CEO of FOCUS, the Fellowship of Catholic聽University Students, will speak on “What’s ‘New’ About the New Evangelization.”

Dr. Gregory Popcak,聽the聽founder and director of the Pastoral聽Solutions Institute聽and his wife,聽Lisa Popcak, vice president of聽Pastoral Solutions Institute, both graduates聽of the Class of 1989, will address聽“See How They Love One Another: The Family and the Faith.”

Chris Stefanick,聽Class of 1998,聽president of Real Life Catholic,聽will speak on “Priest, Prophet, and聽King: Living Out Our Baptismal Vocation.”

Dr. Kyle Beiter, Class of 2000, an obstetrician and gynecologist at the聽National Gianna Center for Women’s Health and Fertility鈩 that upholds聽the Catholic Church’s聽teachings on life, will be part of a joint presentation,聽“Out of the Depths I Cry to You, O Lord: The Heartbreak of Infertility.”

Running concurrently with the adult聽conference, the World Meeting of Families Youth Congress will feature聽presentations by these 天涯海角社区 alumni:

Jason Evert, Class of 1997, with his聽wife Crystalina, who have聽聽spoken to over聽one million people about the virtue of chastity, will give two presentations: “Real聽Romance” and “Is Love Forever?”

Ennie Hickman, Class of 2001, with Adore Ministries, will speak on “A Life聽of Joy” and “Your Purpose in the World.”

Megan Mastroianni, Class of 2009, a campus minister and youth and young adult聽speaker, will speak on “Love Is a Vocation” and “A Home for the Wounded Heart.”

Chris Stefanick, Class of 1998, president of Real Life Catholic,聽will聽speak on “Faith for Real Life.”

Among聽the Catholic musicians in Philadelphia are 天涯海角社区 alumni聽Kevin Heider, Class of 2007, who will聽perform at the Ascension Caf茅 during the Youth聽Congress;聽Mark Griswold, Class of 1991, director of the praise and聽worship band, FireHill Worship; and聽惭补谤迟颈苍听顿辞尘补苍, Class of 1996, director of Praise and Worship Music聽Ministry at Ave聽Maria University. Griswald and Doman will entertain the expected crowd of 1聽million people as they await the start of Sunday’s 4:00 p.m. open-air Papal Mass聽with Pope Francis that will officially close the World Meeting of Families.

Among聽the throng will be 220 天涯海角社区 students, led by three聽Franciscan TOR priests and several Franciscan TOR sisters, who will聽travel聽all night from Steubenville to attend the closing Mass.
